PEPP, Inc receives grant funds from the UPS Foundation

January 11, 2008 ----PEPP, Inc receives a $130,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS. The grant will fund the Literacy Initiative, a program for youth with disabilities throughout the state of Georgia.

Founded in 1996, Parents Educating Parents and Professionals, Inc. (PEPP) is a 501c3 non-profit organization, which serves the entire state of Georgia. Following our corporation’s mission, PEPP offers many projects that connect families and professionals with services that provide direct positive outcomes for all children & youth, including those with disabilities and of economically disadvantaged status.

PEPP created the Literacy Initiative to teach the youth we work with on a day-to-day basis, the skills needed in order to have a quality future. Major components to the Literacy Initiative include workplace and financial literacy, self-esteem and reading skills; these components are the most common weaknesses of our target population. PEPP, Inc believes by giving families and youth the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary they will grow stronger. All PEPP projects help to accomplish our mission, “PEPP, Inc. is a non-profit corporation dedicated to improving the “Quality of Life” dream for all families of children, youth, and adults with disabilities”.

“PEPP is extremely proud of winning the UPS grant award. We look forward to building a prosperous relationship with UPS and volunteers. Inspiring these youth will provide rewarding and meaningful work for all involved. The “Literacy Initiate” will provide youth with disabilities the tools to enhance their lives invaluably, uncover their fullest potential, and give them the roots to achieve Quality of Life.”---PEPP Team

Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, GA., The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts, social issues. In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified literacy, hunger relief, and volunteerism as its focus areas.

In 2006, The UPS Foundation distributed over $45 million worldwide through grants that benefit organizations or programs such as the PEPP Literacy Initiative and provide support for building stronger communities.

“Giving back to the communities is an important part of UPS’s nearly 100 year-old culture that’s embraced by our employees through volunteerism, making donations and sharing their unique skill sets,” said Lisa Hamilton, president of the UPS Foundation. “Together with non-profit partners such PEPP, we work to make a positive impact on the lives of people in need.”
